I am very flexible and work with clients
however suits them best. For example, I am just as comfortable writing one-off
articles as I am managing regular publications from start to finish.
Writing
I am an experienced journalist and write
news articles, features, annual reports, white papers, speeches, book chapters,
press releases and award entries based on research and interviews. No
subject is too complex to communicate clearly about and I focus on producing
articles that target as wide an audience as possible, while catering to the
precise needs of any industry audience they may have.
I have done extensive
ghostwriting (for example, of articles and speeches) and am
skilled at reproducing a particular tone of voice.
Editing
I edit all types of documents for
clients to improve their flow and clarity. Often, what I do is about cleaning
up text so that the core messages really shine and clients are proud of the work
that they publish. One area I have a lot of experience in is sensitively editing text
written by authors whose first language is not English.
I am also an experienced magazine editor
and can edit whole publications, such as magazines and newsletters, from the
very first idea, through to delivery. This includes generating a comprehensive set
of ideas for inclusion, writing articles, managing freelance contributors, editing text, making
amends, managing designers, and liaising with printers to ensure copies
are delivered on time. I am also adept at sub-editing text in Quark and
InDesign to make even the longest copy fit, without jeopardising the design,
and ensure that layouts really sing.
Proofreading
I proofread word-processed documents or those laid out for print to check that typos are eradicated, widows are eliminated, all references are cross-checked and consistency reigns throughout. For those documents that are laid out, I also check that any design elements complement the text.
Training
I can offer practical, hands-on training courses on
how to improve your writing and editing skills, increase confidence, and ensure that all communications are clear, concise and on brief.
